Louise gray

So i've never really taken much notice of louise gray...i'm the type of person that judges a designer on the seasons an she never really stands out to me until today.. i saw her latest two collections and wow im in love not just in love but in LOVE! She really hits the nail on the head when it comes to throw everything on and then take off but she doesnt take off and it really works well. I love it man!! I wonder when she will blow up and start to get more recognition for her craziness. I would go as far as saying the new Viv but only recently sorry louise.

i love this first one especially...it kinda reminds me of my latest project...

So i've decided on my path for my brixton project but its not so much Brixton its more the long road to Brixton. I dont want it to be smack in the face bam we r showing in Brixton so my model looks like a street in Brixton! Naaa...

Heres my brain storm so far... (just warning u the next few weeks will probably be non stop posts about a certain style of fashion) :)

Brixton- fight for survival, changing town, warrior, gangs, crime culture, protection, getting out.
Eco- reinventing through clothing, layers, new materials from old
which then links into my transition- decay, nature, outdoors, natural.

I like my links i think they are really good starting points. Ive had a look through TextileView magazine and found some colour palettes etc.. and working with Kamillah means we can bounce ideas back and forth and she is looking at the transition side of decay nature and natural forms which is what interests her alot..

I found a fashion shoot in an old Vogue which the tutor really loved and so did i so im going along those lines as it links in perfectly.

Its looking exciting!! :)

Yet another one!

I can't say im very shocked that another one is happening, Topshop had to try and upstage Lanvin for H&M and they always do it with the up and coming designers that not many high street shoppers will know but they will get to know! What am i talking about?

Alexander Wang ss '11

I have never realy liked Alexander Wang i've always found he doesnt really fit my style his lines are too crisp and it wasnt until last season and now this hot baby that i've really started to look at his clothes. I mean take the top image for example of it wasnt for this badboy the season would have no colour for Wang. Every season i create a moodboard on my bedroom wall just to have ideas of styles etc and upcoming things i should be looking out for. This is one of the things i'll be adding to my wishlist.

where does one find mint green Bacofoil???
do you look like a sweet wrapper gone wrong when you wear it?

Reflective Statement

Its been really hard to religiously stick to my blog as its only this week, February that i have internet in my home. I thought a blog would be in my blood as i love I.T and i have started them before but i feel they are such hard work and i would like to get into the routine of writing one on a daily basis. I dont feel my blog reflects my life living in london with a great job and being inspired all the time. I need to start taking pictures uploading and stop using sketchbooks as much to catalogue and research as blogs are an amazing way of getting out there with ideas and thoughts. I feel i have been able to produce a good blog but my task from now is to be more hands on and not feel as though its much of a chore. In time i think this will come and i will start using it as a reflective diary maybe not so much day to day right now but i want to get to that. I follow Tavi the style Rookie religiously and i know i wont be as big a blogger as her but i want my blog to look on similar levels :)

TRASH

Britain loves high street fashion. Tempted by rock bottom prices we're buying a third more clothing than we did a decade ago. But fast changing fashions mean over a million tonnes of textile waste end up in landfill each year.

This new exhibition investigates how the latest design and technology will help to create wear without waste and what we all can do to reduce the impact of throwaway fashion.

FASHION NEEDS A MAKEOVER CAN DESIGNERS USE NEW TECHNOLOGY TO CREATE STYLE WITHOUT WASTE??

I think its amazing that the fashion world has taken responsibility and come to notice what it is doing to todays society and the environment. We are the next designers up and coming and if it can be shown to us what is being done then we can do something about it. Having exhibitions such as trash fashion teaching us the impact of sustainabilty and waste is one step in the right direction. With the rise of vintage clothing i think its good to say its becoming more of a 'fashion thing' than a i have to help the environment but when this craze ends what will happen?
The thing that gets me the most with throw away fashion is the people on the start of the line, the bin is at the end, its the small children in india or africa that are making these items with all their sweat and energy that really gets to me more than the impact on the environment, if these sweat shops weren't there primark wouldnt be as cheap and cheerful. It takes getting to a certain age and maturity to realise the impact.

Challenge of materials
I chose the recycled PVC wellies as i felt that recycled PVC related to my project as i am using it within my stitch work to create my samples for my current project.

PVC  is a cost-effective, low maintenance, lightweight, strong, versatile and fully recyclable material that is adaptable to many applications and designers and aritsts use it all the time as it creates so many different effects. We initially associate PVC to tight fitted clothing often sex but it has gone so far past that and if we are able to recycle it we are doing something for the environment. PVC can be recycled 10 times and more and will still not loose its structure, it is one of the most versatile materials to have been invented with thousands of uses that cannot be economically or practically replaced with other materials.

Melissa or you may know her as Melissa and Vivienne Westwood is the groundbreaking brand that uses plastic 'plastic dreams' to create all of her shoes. They are 99% recycled plastic shoes.

Really???

The icing on the cake was Cher Lloyd ‘my affordable hiphop clothing range’ When did celebrities become fashion designers? Why have design houses hit the high street?
For a while i’ve questioned the real designers of the 21st century and do these designer high street collaborations really work? Nearly every week Grazia announces yet another Celebrity name to fashion or a fashion house to the high street. I envied the Carrie Bradshaws of society that could have the Jimmy Choo’s and not the Jimmy Choo’s for H&M. Did the recession bring this on or was it happening before? Could fashion survive without it? Who buys into these collections and why??
“DON'T expect to see a Prada collection for H&M or Topshop any time soon; Miuccia Prada insists it's not something she would ever do. "I have never even considered it and I've explained why," she said. "It's because I don't like the idea of a bad copy of what one does for the main brand. If I had an ingenious idea to do fashion that costs less but that wasn't a bad copy of something else, with completely different criteria and ways of doing things, I would do it...For now, what I see, more or less, is the bad copy. Also with clothes that cost little, you need to ask why they cost so little. Because no one ever asks themselves that."
